Who We Are (CFGALA)

The Cape Fear Guardian ad Litem Association (CFGALA) offers enrichment opportunities to 600 abused, neglected and dependent children who find themselves in the foster care system in New Hanover and Pender Counties, and supports the 150 Guardians ad Litem (GaLS) who advocate for these children.

Mission Statement

  • To guarantee that the special needs of abused, neglected, and dependent children represented by GaL volunteers are adequately addressed.
  • To enrich the lives of children represented by GaL volunteers by providing grants and scholarships that will enable them to participate in activities beneficial to their development.
  • To provide community awareness of the plight of abused and neglected children in New Hanover and Pender Counties.
  • To support essential ongoing education of GaL volunteers.

Brief History of the Association

In 2001, CFGALA established itself as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization in order to raise money to fund educational, cultural and recreational opportunities for GaL children: the abused, abandoned, and neglected children in the foster care system.
